Head to the Mountains: Great Winter Weather Produces Even Better Summer Activities
June 14, 2008

The snow may be gone, but there's no shortage of reasons to visit Snow Summit and Bear Mountain this summer. Pack away the ski poles, grab the golf clubs and head to the mountains. Bear Mountain Golf Course officially opened for the season May 9 and the abundance of snow throughout the winter, along with an active spring readying the course, promise to make this a great season.

"We've made several upgrades on the golf course this year," says Big Bear Mountain Resort's Marketing Director, Chris Riddle. "New fertilization methods, combined with natural conditions, brought the greens to mid-summer quality by May 1st!" Bear Mountain also made the course more challenging this year with clever new sand traps that dot the nine-hole course. The new level of difficulty will add intrigue for both the experienced and novice golfers.

The nearby Sky Chair at Snow Summit opens on May 17 for weekend visitors, and will be open daily starting June 21. The slopes that were conquered during the ski season provide a welcomed adventure for hiking. Early season mountainsides are covered with wildflowers and green grasses that make a journey to the top a worthwhile excursion in the summer. After a quick lift on the Sky Chair, mountain bikers have access to over 40 miles of wooded trails and spectacular vistas.

"Summer brings a completely new type of fun," says Riddle. But his mind is never far from the next ski season. "Season passes for next season are still available at our spring "Screamin' Deal" rates...and it's a great way to use your economic stimulus check!"
